Dear DRers :)
I preparing to install my Husaberg forks on my DR. Situation a bit unusual - I am very unsure and need an advice.
Husaberg steering stem is 25 mm both bearings. DR lower bearing is 30 mm.
On Husaberg stem is installed with circlip under lower clamp.
I pressed out Husaberg stem from clamp from top to down without even press, because clamp is aluminium and stem is steel - with good heating it worked easily.
I checked part of Husaberg stem which was pressed into lower clamp and I do not see any angles/taper. Seems it is all 25 mm. Same size all lenght of part of stem that go into lower clamp.
Now I have to prepare drawingsfor stem to be machned for DR bearings and Berg clamp.
Problem is - since lower bearing ID is 30 mm and hole in lower clamp is for 25 mm I need to makes stem look like this picture:

That means I will need to press it in from top to down. So, technically - stem for few hours in in deep freezer, aluminium clamp heated up as much as it is safe and then fit it by hand/smaaaal press I have from top to down. Then install circlip.
What do you think, if I do it that way (that shape of stem and installing top to down) - will I make potential catastrophe or not? It will be first time in my life to install steering stem in this way. I always slid them other way into clamp in the past. I am just confused - there is difference between "science" and real life, and I can't tell if I plan totally wrong thing. I am a bit worried to bore out hole in the lower clamp because a) it is aluminium and may loose too much strenght b)it must be done with very serious precision on good machine that I do not have.[/img]

Correction. Will be no circlip on bottom side. Will be tread drilled/treaded into stem from bottom side.
